What are specialised programs?
Specialised programs are services provided by the
Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist, that focus on specialised areas in a
multi-disciplinary approach, or services that are provided in an off-site
location.
Specialised programs currently offered by Coastal
Physiotherapy include :
-
Gym Program
-
The "Getting Fit
to Function" Program..... available December 2007
-
Gym Program
Programs
designed by a physiotherapist focused on building core strength and flexibility
in a community setting.
If this program is designed for injured workers,
the gym program will focus specifically on developing exercises to specifically
target work tasks presenting as a barrier to a successful return to work.

"Getting Fit to Function" Program
This program is conducted by the Physiotherapist,
Occupational Therapist and Psychologist and is recommended for injured
workers suffering from chronic pain, who have not returned to work in greater
than three months or are having difficulty coping with every day activities due
to their pain. The Physiotherapist initially assesses the injured worker
to provide an accurate diagnosis and to assess their ability to physically
participate in the program. The Occupational Therapist will assess the workers
activity levels, and provide education in how to safely upgrade activity despite
the pain, and explore the concepts of energy
conservation, correct body mechanics for task performance without aggravating
their injured areas, and the workers ability to schedule a balanced activity
routine. The Psychologist will assess the person's pain management skills
and strategies. Program duration is 6 weeks, and encompasses 1:1 treatment with the Physiotherapist, Occupational
Therapist and Psychologist, as well as attendance in the physiotherapy gym to complete a work
conditioning program. The aim of this program is to get a
person physically fit for work, to go back to their pre-injury position, or to
keep their job and minimise their experience of chronic pain.
